Newsletter 32 – February 2018

Welcome and a happy and safe 2018.

To start this year let us remember that there is no such thing as a free lunch, because “everyman’s subsidy is another man’s tax” and how true is this statement.

This is for serious thought whenever anyone asks for a subsidy or in kind assistance.

Pigeon Problem

Eighth Avenue is not looking good at the present time – I’m referring to the business side.

The larger than ever pigeon problem is not a good look at all for our main street as the mess increases every day.  Council has moved the flying foxes so what can or needs to be done with the pigeons as there is hardly a footpath that does not have pigeon droppings and cleaning is only good for a couple of days.

Free Swimming Pool Day

The free day for the swimming pool was great but I thought that it could have started a lot earlier in the month and a few more Sundays instead of one day only. Big thanks go to Roy for footing the bill.

Free Rubbish Dumping Day

While I’m at it, we need a free rubbish dumping day to get rid of unwanted items in case of bad weather instead of waiting until it’s too late.

Christmas and New Year Cover

I was asked a couple of questions between Christmas and New Year in regard to Council matters which I could not answer.  So do you think that there should be a skeleton office staff at the Council between Christmas and New Year like we have at Jones Street for just in case?

I’m sure not everyone wants this time off. We need real people to help answer some of the more difficult questions that just can’t wait such as funeral arrangements etc.

Instead of uninformed information from some call centre where ever that is?  Let’s try and keep the jobs local and the ratepayer’s money in the Shire.

Safety

A gap in the safety department. Home Hill has 4 roundabouts compared to 29 in Ayr.

Home Hill wants to be on par as far as road safety goes.

Blocked Main Town Drain

Recent rain saw drains working OK in most cases except the main town drain at 14th Avenue. The concrete box in the middle of the drain was completely blocked. The water was over the pipe and running along the spoon drain.

This will be a huge problem should we have heavy rain in a short period as the water will back up all the way to 11th. Avenue and beyond, to the point of threatening back yards and houses in low lying areas.

This problem needs to be fixed sooner rather than later.
