Home Hill Courthouse

Can you believe it?

It is 2019 and I was only just getting used to 2018.

Australia Day ceremony

The Australia Day ceremony at the Burdekin Theatre went very well with a good crowd and top entertainment by local artists. Congratulations go to Bill and Betty Lucas for their achievements in getting top honours as Citizens of the year.

A well-earned thanks

I must thank the Burdekin Brass Band and Home Hill Choral Society for playing at the Council Christmas Carols at the Memorial Hall.

And for the night at the Comfort stop – not forgetting the Choral Society for their great contribution on the night both these organisations helped to make a great night.

Comfort Stop Water Feature Upgrade

Council has asked the RADF committee for advice and assessment, to help with the upgrade of the water feature at the comfort stop. The water feature at the comfort stop needs to be finished well before the Tourist season starts if possible.

Water Tower Emergency Generator Upgrade

The old existing emergency generator at the Home Hill water tower site will be upgraded to accommodate future infrastructure upgrades; this is part of a master plan to secure our water supply.

Free Dump Weekend

The free dump weekend on the 24/25 November was a big success with 169 vehicles passing through the gate and adding approximately 35 tonnes to the land fill, also 170 tyres were collected plus many more items.  I’m sure this program will be repeated again at the end of this year.

We also need bulk skips at creek landings for Easter as well as Christmas.

Home Hill Court House

Recent Discussion has been held in regard to the Home Hill Court House of what is required to maintain and repair to the exterior of this building. At present Council has an informal lease agreement with the Queensland Government. Watch this space for further updates on this project.

Home Hill Walking Trail

Could this be a safety issue if not done?   Home Hill needs a walking trail or a link up of all footpaths to make for safer walking with possible outdoor exercise equipment along the way.

Queen Street Public Toilets Refurbishment

The public toilets in Queen Street Ayr are now undergoing a major upgrade after nearly 30 years and not before time.

Haughton River Bridge Upgrade

You will have noticed major construction which will be at full capacity by March this year along the Bruce Highway near Giru.  Approximately 13.5km of highway plus a new bridge over the Haughton River should be finished in 2021 depending on weather etc.
