ANZAC Day

I enjoyed ANZAC Day.  It went very well and I was proud to be there at the dawn parade and the gun fire breakfast.

All were well attended with well-presented speeches by Aaliyah Calder from the Home Hill High School, Wing Commander from the RAAF in Townsville and Bill Lowis ex-navy Chief Petty Officer.

The main parade was also well attended at the new site in the Memorial Park this makes one proud to belong to such a great community as we have in Home Hill.

Speeches at the main parade were a bit long with the smaller kids braving it out on a very hot morning, not forgetting the elderly.

Sweet Days, Hot Nights Festival

It will be all over but not forgotten when you read this.

The Sweet Days, Hot Nights Festival introduced a new feature titled ‘The Burning Man’.

This is a first-time project which could become the icon for the Sweet Days, Hot Nights Festival.  This will add to the cane cutting opening night’s first fire of the season.

It was a great success for the Burdekin residents and visitors alike and could put Home Hill on the must do festival map.

Special thanks go to Josh Richter and Karl Vass who helped me in getting this concept off the ground.

Inkerman Hill Nature Trail

The new walking or goat track on Inkerman Hill is very popular with the locals. Council in the future could add a mountain bike track, I keep being asked about it and all good things come to those that can wait.

A safer connection between the car park and the start of the new walking track at Inkerman Hill is needed with safety signs to make everyone aware off the main road traffic.

Footpaths

The footpath construction is proceeding well along 7th Avenue.  Please have patience with the stop and go gang because it’s for everyone’s safety and on finishing it will enhance the entrance to Home Hill with a cleaner look.

New Look for Home Hill

In case you don’t know Home Hill now has a new look entrance on 4th Street to the cemetery also the comfort Stop now has a flag pole with the Australian Flag.

Local Government Trivia

There are 77 councils in Qld. And 4.9 million Queenslander residents are serviced by these councils.

In Queensland 330,000 Tonnes of paper and cardboard are sent to recycling and 1 million+ Tonnes of hard waste is managed and that is a lot of rubbish.
