New Wunjunga Committee

Congratulations to the new committee at Wunjunga (Beachmount), maybe not so new as they will be holding their AGM shortly.

The committee has undertaken a major clean-up of rubbish, tree removal plus maintaining the present fire break.

Messy Footpaths

The tourist or (as it is now called) the visitors season is here so what sort of impression are we giving these visitors who have to walk through pigeon s#&t which is all over the footpaths from one end of 8th Avenue to the other and getting worse.

It seems that we can’t get rid of or control these flying rats. and absentee landlords don’t care.

I’m forever being asked what is Council going to do about the problem.

This problem has been discussed in Council and with the Home Hill Chamber of Commerce on a number of occasions.  I have heard a dozen excuses of why we can’t have a footpath sweeper that could be used all over the Burdekin Shire on a regular basis.

It’s like bashing your head against a brick wall and in the meantime footpaths just keep getting more fouled up day after day.

Sweet Days and Hot Nights Festival

So what did you think of the cane cutting festival (Sweet Days and Hot Nights)?

The crowd on both days were outstanding and the food on offer was even better 10 out of 10 goes to the Lions Club with their steak burger I haven’t had better! This festival will take some beating next year.

I hope we will be able to get a “Burdekin Man” burning twice the size it was a great hit both with young and old.

Road safety

A small observation about 13th Avenue and the many intersections with the streets.

I think the original surveyor must have been on the hops and early in the morning crossed eyes and hung over when he drew up the streets in this part of town.

If you live or have ever driven down 13th Avenue you will have noticed what a poor set up it is.  At some intersections you suddenly end up on the wrong side of the street if you are not careful. The offsets are dangerous.

A solution would be to have roundabouts at every intersection but this is out of the question because of the cost.

A more simple solution would be to line mark the road to make the motorist aware of the changing traffic conditions.
