Mount Inkerman Nature Trail

Liessmann’s and Sons Draw

For this coming month of September we at Liessmann’s and Sons are holding a competition with a small prize for the first correct number out of the hat for counting the number of concrete steps going up the nature trail (goat track) at Inkerman Hill.

This is in the interest of getting all of you moving up and enjoying the best views in the Burdekin.

Drop in your name and count number and you will go into the draw.

Home Hill Identity?

Just a thought does Home Hill needs its own identity?

Already we have two iconic festivals created by residents with vision and hard work many years ago:

  • the Harvest Festival
  • the Burdekin Growers Race Day and now
  • the Cane cutting Festival (we might need a name change here, re branding).

Building these festivals around the burning of cane seems to be what tourists are looking for from the positive feedback that was received.

After all this makes this town like it or not.  (The burning capital of Australia).

It will take time to turn all attractions to the big burn with the Burdekin Man Burning as a focal point.

Seventh Avenue Footpath

By the time you read this newsletter the footpath along 7th Avenue should be finished.

It did not reach Milburn Road as was first planed and this has left some disgruntled ratepayers along 7th Avenue .

It has been a major job with the many Telstra boxes, crossovers and water supplies that had to be changed plus a myriad of other things that go to make this footpath workable and it’s worth every dollar.

The end results makes for a safer tidier lasting impression of the highway entrance into Home Hill.

Council Budget

I have been asked on numerous occasions where and what has Council done to make cuts in this year’s budget?

Well I’m part of the system, I’m not happy with the overall savings achieved in this year’s budget we’ll just have to try harder for next budget while at the same time ensuring a continuation of improvements where possible.

Animals

Animals are always a major concern both to the public and the council.

Here are four suggestions for safe pets:

  • Use a short leash when walking your pet.
  • Fence your yard and keep your gate closed.
  • Desex, vaccinate and microchip your pet.
  • Try and keep your dog from barking consistently.

Following these steps will make for a happy neighbourhood.

Australia Day Awards

On a lighter note have you thought of a person, group or an event in the community to nominate for the 2019 Australia Day Awards?
