Harvest Festival

What a great Harvest Festival, the parade was one of the best I’ve seen in many years and what a crowd, to see the procession and enjoy the Mardi Grad 10 out of 10 for a fabulous event it will be a hard act to follow next year.

100 Anniversary Armistice Day

On the 11th November following on the heels of the Home Hill Harvest Festival, I felt privileged to take part to honour and remember the anniversary Armistice Day. It was 100 years since the end at the 11 hours on the11th November1918.

Included in the ceremony was a great Aussie poem read out by Bill Lowis which he had received from his grandfather.  So very fitting for the occasion.

Dedication of the Home Hill War Memorial

The 1st December will see the Dedication of the Home Hill War Memorial at 10am in Home Hill Memorial Park where it has just been relocated to from the old RSL site. This memorial has had a major upgrade by the members of the Home Hill RSL sub branch.

Burdekin Machinery Heritage Centre

Have you ever been to Brandon and had a look at the Burdekin Machinery Heritage Centre who had an open day display on Sunday 12th November.  It is well worth the drive for everyone who is interested in old machinery. You could also join, as there are many Home Hill blokes in the club you can be sure they will make you welcome.

Brand-New Doctor’s Surgery

We now have a brand-new doctor’s surgery in town and I bet we are the envy of many rural towns throughout Queensland if not Australia who would dearly love to have a doctor of this calibre. This is a major boost with a positive outlook for Home Hill. Thanks to Dr Tata his family and the rest of the team.

Water Infrastructure

There is nothing more important than water and more important than gold.  Have a think about this.

Have you ever though how much work and infrastructure goes into delivering a drop of water to your kitchen tap or out of your garden sprinkler?

We all take it for granted.  In fact I think we believe it’s our right to have this service, never thinking of what is involved.

At present we are having major upgrades in pumps etc. here in-Home Hill as I mentioned in my last letter.

Storage in Home Hill is not so great. At best we have a short time of water in reserve and only then if ratepayers conserve their water usage.

Ayr is also receiving a major pipe line and pumps upgrade, now where am I going with this story?

Home Hill and Ayr need more potable drinking water storage, this means large water storage tanks on the ground, in the case there is a problem due to bad weather or a major break down where more time is needed by council staff for repairs.

So far, all work is done with council day labour creating a gang of workers who are skilled in this kind of work plus keeping jobs local.

Safe and Happy Christmas and New Year

As this is the last letter of the year, I would like wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
