Cut Spending and go without unnecessary projects

Letter to the Editor in the Advocate 25.04.2012

[I think we should] make a change with a new council and cut spending and go without unnecessary projects and consolidate. If it’s unattainable, we have got to live without it, to keep rates at a manageable level.

There will come a time when single income earners, pensioners and anyone on low income such as a young family trying to buy a house will not be able to afford the rates, which are ridiculous high in the Burdekin.

People will walk away or will not be able to pay the rates and this in turn will have a detrimental effect on the rest of the shire.

Finally, we need divisions again, so that you the ratepayer knows where your rates are spent and this gives the smaller areas a fair go like Giru, Home Hill, Millaroo, Clare and Brandon.

Remember, elections are lost, not won and the present day council need to know this.

The gist of this letter is stop spending.
